Chocolate Oreo Cream Cake

Sometimes you just need to make a cake for no reason.  Especially when its chocolate with an oreo cream filling.  Samantha made this one day when she wasn't working and was looking for something to do.  It turned out great and it was so delicious I know we will be making it again.   The original recipe from Kraft calls for cool whip but we substituted whipped cream instead as we are not big cool whip fans.

Ingredients:

1 box of devil's food cake
ingredients needed to make cake on back of the box

Filling:
8 oz. of cream cheese, reduced fat or regular, softened
1/2 cup sugar
12 oreos, chopped
1-1/2 cups whipping or heavy cream

Frosting:
1/2 cup cocoa powder
6 tbsp butter, softened
4 cups confections sugar
1 tsp vanilla
5 or 6 tbsp milk or more if needed

Directions:
Make cake as directed on package for two 9" round cakes.  Let cool.

Prepare the filling by mixing softened cream cheese and sugar.  Add in crushed oreos. In a separate bowl whip the cream until it turns to the desired whipped cream consistency.  Fold whipped cream into filling mixture.

To assemble cake put one 9" round cake on platter and top with filling mixture.  There might be leftover depending on how thick you like it.

To prepare chocolate frosting mix softened butter and cocoa powder.  Add vanilla.  Alternately add confectioners sugar and milk until desired consistency is achieved.

Put other half of cake on top of cake with filling.  Frost sides and top of cake.

Enjoy!  Susan & Samantha
