Apple Crisp

The family and I went apple picking last month when Sam came home for the weekend and I was looking for a dessert to make with them that wasn't apple pie as I don't really like apple pie.  This was a delicious dessert with just a few minutes of preparation time mostly spent chopping the apples.  The recipe is adapted from Martha Stewart.  Its best served warm with melting vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup sugar
1 cup old fashioned oats
1 stick unsalted butter melted
4 apples (I used honey crisp apples)
1/4 cup sugar for apples
2 tbsp lemon juice
zest of 1/2 lemon
1 tsp cinnamon

Directions:
Mix together the flour, brown sugar, sugar, and old fashioned oats.

Add melted butter and mix until combined.

Peel, core and chop apples into bite sized pieces and add to baking dish.  Add lemon juice, lemon zest, sugar and cinnamon into apple mixture and stir to combine.

Pour crumb mixture over apple mixture and bake for 50-55 minutes.

Mixture should be golden and bubbling.  Wait 10 minutes before serving.  Top with vanilla ice cream.

Enjoy!!
